Welcome to the Official Website of the Municipality of Algeria.

It is my pride and joy to show you what our town has to offer, from our rich culture and history, to our tourist sites and products, and much more.

Kausaban. The thrust of my administration is change, change of mindset and changing the way we do things in order to effect a positive change for the town and for its people. Numerous projects have been lined up and are already in place – from the creation of new roads, the overall beautification of the municipality, improvements in the water system, digitalization of some of our systems and processes and the construction of the new Municipal hall and Legislative building, to name a few.

Our town’s produce is centered on the agro industry, one of which are eggs and poultry. Algeria is also home to the Algeria Community College, the only tertiary school in the island that is being run and managed by a local government unit.

History

Alegria used to be a barrio of Tubod under the Municipality of Samboan long Before 1857. The name Tubod was due to a famous spring which served both its inhabitants and travelers with its crystalline waters for drinking and other purposes under the shade of three big Talisay trees. The spring was located in what is now sitio Santa Rosa, Poblacion and it is ideally situated that it became the sitio of community celebrations.

In one of its native fete, when the inhabitants were feasting, drinking, singing and dancing in gay abandon, the first Spanish soldiers to visit the locality arrived.
